embracing life and letting God

Encourage One Another

   encourage one another...

I am in the middle of reading Sally Clarkson’s The Mission of Motherhood. One of the common themes throughout her ministry is to use your experiences to encourage others. That, no matter how much you struggle, you always have a gift of encouragement to share with another. How can we know how to encourage another if we haven’t BEEN THERE?
I have recently been in contact with a sweet mom who began homeschooling again earlier this year. Her children had a terrible circumstance in their lives in the fall and they were having a hard time in school. Their sweet momma decided to bring them home where they could mend under her nurturing care and love, while learning at home. [Reason #1,998 to Homeschool]

Continued HERE...

I am sharing my heart today over at HOMESCHOOL MOSAICS on Encouraging One Another.   I would love for you come over and join me as I journey through 'Homeschool In~COURAGE~ment for Moms'.

While you are there I know you are going to want to stay a while and enjoy all of the wonderful columns, by a beautifully diverse group of women.

Fabulous Honey Lime Fruit Salad

Summer is just around the corner.  Here in the south it has been a BEAUTIFUL spring.  Spring in the south is my favorite time of year, with a good mix of warm and cool temperatures to keep the days perfect with the nights still cool.  Now that the temperatures are heating up our family is spending more and more time outside - riding bikes, playing tennis, going on our daily walks, or just running and playing outside.  When it's time to come in, a healthy and delicious snack is just what we need to reenergize.  Cold fruit salad with a twist makes for a great snack that everyone loves.

To make your own you will need the following ingredients.  Since this is not an exact measurement type of recipe you will have to base your portions on the containers available at your local grocery or market.  These are the portions I used for 5 people.  It was enough for one serving each.

  • 1 bag/bunch of green grapes ~ washed, stems removed
  • 1 bag/bunch of red grapes ~ washed, stems removed
  • 2 containers of blueberries [approx. 1pt. ea.]
  • 2 containers of strawberries [approx. 1pt. ea.] ~ washed, hulled, and cut in half
  • 1/2 cup Organic Raw Honey
  • juice from 2 limes
HLFS ingredients

Add grapes and strawberries

Add blueberries and honey lime dressing

Once you have washed, cut, de-stemmed, and hulled your fruit, mix it all together in a large bowl.  It's time to make your fruit dressing.

Combine the honey and lime juice well then pour over your fruit.  Mixed well and viola...

At this point you can refrigerate your fruit salad.  But, if your family is anything like mine they are ready to eat IMMEDIATELY!  It is so cool, delicious and refreshing.  You will be making this for your family, block parties, baby showers and bridal showers.

Get outside and enjoy these beautiful days together with your family and then share this Fabulous Fruit Salad with them.

five minute friday : Identity

::five minute friday ::
throwing caution to the wind
a feast of words pouring forth from heart, mind, soul
Just five minutes. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
Join Me!
The Gypsy Mama says...

Your words. This shared feast.

1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking.

OK, are you ready? Facebook chimed in last night and overwhelmingly voted for a prompt either about mothers or Mother’s Day. This was one of the suggestions and I love that it can apply to any and all, mother or not. So please give me your best five minutes on:
Adopted. Only Child.  Spoiled rotten.  Tom-boy. Daddy's girl.
The child who, maybe ADD, couldn't think any further than the next moment.
These defined who I was.
So I thought.
Selfish and frustrated.
An average student in school.  Never felt good enough.
I was a natural athlete.  I loved softball and karate.
All-stars and brown belt defined Me.
Who knew the plans He had for me?
For He foreordained us (destined us, planned in love for us) to be adopted as His own children through Jesus Christin accordance with the purpose of His will [ because it pleased Him and was His kind intent]—Ephesians 1:5
I Met Jesus.  Then Met the Love of my life.
I Worked in retail and drove 'the cool car'.
My friends hated me for a while.  But as designated driver the hate turned to love.
That was me, who I was to them.
My Daddy got cancer and died. Suddenly.  So I thought.
Remember that thoughtless little girl, she was oblivious and should have known.
Suddenly I was the young girl, in college, with no daddy. Mom and I switched roles.
But HE knew ...
In [this] freedom Christ has made us free [and completely liberated us]; stand fast then, and do not be hampered and held ensnared and submit again to a yoke of slavery [which you have once put off]. -Galatians 5:1
Married at 21. Mother at 28, 31, and 35.
Bible study leader and prayer warrior.
Then I became a homeschool mom and the microscope got stronger.
Battling my own insecurities, I thought I finally found me.
Wife, Mother, Pray[er]. Teacher.
This is who I was.
Then.  One day. I found the truth...

For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].-Ephesians 2:10
It only took me 40 years.  As my pastor said just this morning, 40 years is the number of preparation.  I told you He KNEW.
From My Heart to Yours,
Revelation 12:11

five minute friday: Real

The Gypsy Mama says: When last did you write for fun?
Not to impress anyone, not for blog hits or comments or Pinterest pins?
When last did you just write?
On Fridays over here a group of people who love to go all out buck wild for the fun of the written word gather to share what five minutes buys them. Just five minutes. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.
1. Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking
2. Link back here and invite others to join in.
3. Please visit the person who linked up before you & encourage them in their comments.
OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes on:
Here I go....
When the mask comes off and the emotions run free.  When you are able to be you and I am able to be me.  It's Real.  When I stand in the bathroom at church and cry my heart out to my friend telling her "I don't know why I feel such disappointment."  It's Real.
My father and mother loved me as their own.  Their love was Real.
I met my Jesus, in the midst of a sinful teenage life, in a small chapel in Assissi, Italy.  The Porziuncola.  Darkness prevailed with candlelights illuminating the small space where Jesus captured my heart.  I cried out for forgiveness and received.  That was Real. Probably the most Real thing I had ever experienced in my life up until that point, EVER!

My husband walked into a room and I knew I would love him as my husband forever.  21 years later I never doubted the Holy Spirt speaking to my heart that Valentine's night and I never will.  Real love.
Each child, born, nursed, loved with a love that brought frailty, emotions, fear, love so passionate out of me, some days I thought I could not breathe.  And some say the labor pains end once the child is born.  13 years and 3 children later the Love and the Labor pains are Real. And I wouldn't change a thing.
Life is Real.  But God is more.
From My Hear to Yours,

Revelation 12:11
