embracing life and letting God

Leaning on the Lord

Hi Sweet Friends,

It has been a while since I have blogged and I have missed it so.  Life has been simply crazy here.  WARNING:  This is a long one.  I told you I missed it!

I was unsuccessful in sharing the last 18 days of "A Season of Thankfulness".  I was still thankful I just didn't get a chance to blog about it.  But, have no fear I am making up time today.

18 Ways I am Thankful...
  1. My God, who loves me even when my faith wavers. (Did I repeat this one?  Needed to be done!)
  2. For Women who, in the midst of their struggles, still take time to encourage other women.
  3. With God, ALL things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
  4. I can do ALL things through Christ who Strengthens me. (Philippains 4:13)
  5. When my children are sick I get to spend more time giving them extra love and attention.
  6. When you homeschool, and life gets in the way, there is always tomorrow to 'get back on track' and get the work done without pressure to complete make-up work and regular schoolwork.
  7. Beautiful Christmas decorations that bring more light and beauty to my home.
  8. Fires in the fireplace.
  9. My mother, whose mission in life is to keep me comfortable.
  10. Movies that make my children laugh.
  11. Saltine crackers when tummies can't stand to eat anything else.
  12. Tears that pour and release the stress felt over the challenges in life.
  13. Those who give up their whole lives to protect mine. Thank you.
  14. My children's faith.
  15. Rocking chairs.
  16. Open windows.
  17. Memories.
  18. Forgiveness.  Given and received.
Now to catch you up on "Life" here at our little homestead....

I was the popcorn queen for our local Boy Scout Troop.  Let me tell you, it takes a very special person to handle such a seemingly simple job.  The funny thing about it is, when I was recruited it was all "You can do this", you know, sunshine and roses.  Once the job began those who had been in the trenches made it very clear, "not many people take this job for more than one year".  Hmmm.

Let's just say, the Lord used this assignment to draw out of me what I really knew all along, I need to trust Him more.  He also showed me that some jobs are best left for someone else to do.  When it steals from my family's time and attention, it really is not where I am supposed to be at this season in life.

We had Thanksgiving at our home this year.  20 people.  The most difficult part for me as I plan for guests in my home is the "Perfectionist Syndrome".  You can revisit my blog on perfectionism here at "Hi, My Name is Mindy and..."  So I am still struggling to overcome the need to have everything perfect.  The Lord knew and thus gave me Jesus ...

My Peace

and this man...

Captain Awesome

My life's greatest Advocates.

recommend or support something: to support or speak in favor of something
somebody giving support: somebody who supports or speaks in favor of something
helper: somebody who acts or intercedes on behalf of another

Did God ever know what he was doing to give me these gifts.  Thanksgiving went off without a hitch.  Everyone enjoyed good food and reconnected with one another, loving each other as God intended.  My house was not perfect but our Thanksgiving was Just Right!

In the middle of all of the preparation for Thanksgiving, Rhino 2 had a stomach bug.  We thought maybe he was having anxiety "stage fright" attacks, but apparently we were wrong.  Eagle 1 and Princess 3 chimed in Friday night with the bug, and Captain and I came down with our own version over the weekend.  With all of us feeling the yucks the B. household shut down for the weekend.  Most of us are on the mend, thankfully.  Princess was hit the hardest, as she is the youngest.  She is still recovering today.  Such a sweet little girl, weak and tired, but such a trooper.
So that's it in a nut shell.  Our life.  I am learning to smile and be happy, at peace, even when things aren't going my way.  I am not consistent,  I struggle.  I know I am not alone.  I am learning to be led by the Spirit and not by my feelings.  God is showing me the way and I am still growing, Day by Day,  Faith by Faith, from Glory to Glory.
Faith, Love, Joy and Eternal Salvation
are destruction to the devil's plan's to steal, kill and destroy.
Bless you all as we venture into the Season of Christ.  Choose to Hope!  Choose to Believe!  Our God is an Awesome God!

Christian Kids Explore

Today is

We are diving into the Earth,
dissecting it's body, discovering it's natural responses,
and taking a glimpse of Space
exploring the depths of the gift of God's Creation.

In the Beginning... Lesson 1, throughout all 24 lessons the Word of God is our guide, drawing my students into practical, easy to understand facts about the Earth, its structure and laws of nature.  Each lesson has just the right information to hold my students attention without boring them with an overload of facts and theories.

  • Scripture memory verses for each lesson
  • Lists of vocabulary words given at the beginning of every unit, and each word defined in the sidebar of every lesson and the glossary
  • Detailed "Materials Needed for This Unit" as well as many reproducibles in the back of the text to use with multiple students
  • Maps and illustrations
  • Activities for elementary and more advanced students
  • Show What You Know Q & A
  • and more!

From BrightIdeasPress.com, Christian Kids Explore: Earth and Space is a wonderful combination of the Word of God, Scientific knowledge, and fun experiments that bring the lesson into my children's reality.  Ms. Redmond has made science interesting in an easy to follow format.  Presenting Scientific World views versus Biblical Word View, CKEES is full of information and instruction laid out clearly for the user to enjoy.  She even makes it personal by stating her own observations from the Bible and alongside the facts allowing the reader to ponder the many different theories presented.

I have really enjoyed CKEES because I am not a Science type of girl.  The experiments of other science curriculum's tend to make me dread doing our science lessons.  CKEES has brought such detail in 'preparation' of each lesson I actually have enjoyed our lessons each time.  I would highly recommend this series to any mom and dad that finds peace in having someone create a lesson plan for you.

Here is what my children had to say...

Eagle 1:  "[I enjoy this book] Because there is no evolutionary turn to it.  I like the hands on activities and drawings. The stories/facts are good too."

Rhino 2:  "I like the drawings and all of the activities."

Even Princess 3 wanted to join in on the fun.
The coloring pages were a wonderful learning tool to keep her focused as we studied our lesson.
She was so excited to be 'doing science'.
Princess 3:  "The part where I got the piece of play-do, and put the stick (axis) in it.  We put the dot for where we were and put it in the sun and rotated it and it was dark [away from the sun].  I like that."

by Stephanie Redmond
CKEES breaks our universe into manageable bites, offering units about Earth and
its structure, the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and weather, as well as a unit
investigating the universe and its components. The 24 weekly lessons and six unit reviews
present the material in an easy-to-teach manner. Students are encouraged to keep a science
notebook as they learn. Hands-on activities include building a model of Earth and its layers,
using eggs to understand plate tectonics, and simulating a volcanic eruption. Christian Kids
Explore Earth and Space guides your journey as you dive into the wonder of our universe.

Note:  This is a wonderful option for our family because I will be using this for Princess 3 later when she is in elementary school.  The ease of having it on the computer to print helps to alleviate the time consumed when I have to stand and copy each page out of the book.

This series includes:

CKE Chemistry

Season of Thankfulness Day 12

1 Corinthians 8:3

But if one loves God truly [ with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [ recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him].

We are almost to the half-way mark on our Season of Thankfulness and today I am thankful for...

God's strength for new mommies.

Play-do, and the hours of joy it brings children, especially my little girl who just got a fresh batch yesterday.

Legos and the contentment it provides and the imagination it sparks in my 9 year old son.  It's awe inspiring to watch him work sometimes.

Deep restful sleep.

Philippians 4:19, ... my God will liberally supply ( fill to the full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

If you are needing a boost to practice contentment in your life today check-out Joy's post on choosing contentment at The Stay-at-Home Missionary.

Tell me what you are thankful for today.  Blessings!

Season of Thankfulness Day 10 and Day 11

Psalm 103:1

[ [A Psalm] of David. ] BLESS (AFFECTIONATELY, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name!

Today I am doubling up, to catch up on my Thankful days and I truly am doubly thankful...

I am thankful for...

Grocery shopping and coming home with more meals to feed my family. We are truly blessed!

My baby girl who is the best helper - shopping, cleaning, cooking.  She will make a lovely wife and mother some day.

My husband and his helpers, my two sons, who are great at mastering the art of packing for a trip.

The excitement of doing a new thing.

God's redemption, restoration, and resurrection in our lives.

My growing boys who still give me hugs multiple times a day inspite of seeing me all day, everyday.

Homeschooling.  It was one of the best gifts The Lord gave us to experience these years with our children.

The Powerful Prayers of a Mother

Sweet momma's,
Prayer is Powerful!

Stand in Prayer!  Stand on the Word!  STAND and TRUST!  You can finish the race the Lord has set before you.  The enemy is in a season of Distractions.  He is using too many activities and responsibilities, causing them to become distractions that rob you and your family of your joy and your peace.  Let this be an encourgement.  Make more time to be in the presence of the Lord.  Your life depends on it.  The life of your husband and your marriage depends on it.  The lives of your children depend on the Power of Your Prayers!

Ephesians 6:10-18
10In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides].

11Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.
13Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].

14Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,

15And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.

16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].

17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.

18Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people).

Instead of throwing up your hands and saying, "I can't do this anymore".  Be quiet and know that He is Lord.  Don't say what horrible thing is happening.  Speak what the Word's promise is to you. Pray:

I am strong in the Lord.
I am empowered through my union with Him.
I draw my strength from Him, that strength which His boundless might provides.

bound·less [ bówndləss ]

limitless:  to have no end or limit; without limit!

unlimited, endless, limitless, infinite, ceaseless, never-ending, illimitable, vast, without end, interminable, bottomless

Nuclear is nothing to the weapons we have in the Word.  God is Good.  No pressure.
God's might [superior power, force] raised Jesus from the dead.  That same power provides you with strength to conquer the enemy's plots.  Tap into the presence of the Lord.  Don't lead a day without it.  Trust in the one who set the stars and planets in the heavenlies and created you, intricately, fearfully and wonderfully made.

Season of Thankfulness Day 8

That I can call upon the Name of the Lord and be Saved - Yeshua

When the Lord breaks through my pride and the walls I build up to protect myself from fear, shame and simple lack of faith

NOTE:  Please go to the bottom of my blog and pause the music to be able to enjoy this powerful Praise to the Lord

Praise You in This Storm / Casting Crowns

I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
and it's still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you"
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.

And I'll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone how can I carry on
if I can't find You
and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

Season of Thankfulness Day 7

For all [these] things are [taking place] for your sake, so that the more grace (divine favor and spiritual blessing) extends to more and more people and multiplies through the many, the more thanksgiving may increase [and redound] to the glory of God.  -2 Corinthians 4:15

Today I am thankful for...

The sweet birds that are singing to me as I awaken
When life is like a tangled pair of earphones, it is God who untangles my mess
Psalm 121:1 which says, "I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."

Wednesday's Wisdom

Waiting on the Lord

"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him."  -Psalm 37:7

Waiting is an attitude not just something we do.  So much of our life in Faith is about waiting for the Lord to show us His way and His will.   Through the different seasons of our lives there are times of challenge, peace, grief, rest, valley's and mountain tops.  You simply can not rush a season.

Conception, pregnancy, birth - enduring patience.

Waiting for our children to mature and become young men and young women "Trained up in the ways of the Lord" - we patiently wait, one step at a time., conquering one sinful nature and then another.

Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall - we wait.

Plowing, planting, and harvesting - wait.

Waiting is trusting in the Lord.  Patience is a character attribute of God.

"Patience is a virtue that carries a lot of wait." - Amish Proverb

Titus 2 Tuesday

Raising Children is a joyous and arduous adventure.
Becoming a New Creation in Christ,
waiting patiently in the Presence of the Lord
surrendering to Him to change us from Glory to Glory
can seem painfully impossible.

So, to encourage you on your journey today I share this.
I happened upon this wonderful quote from my new book

thanks to my friend Sarah over at Growing for Christ blog.

"It takes a century for God to make a sturdy oak."

We are always growing, always learning and always changing.  We will be on this journey until the day we surrender our spirit or the Lord returns in Glory.  Stand strong in the Lord and wait patiently for Him to make things right.

Colossians 3:15

And let the peace (soul harmony which comes) from Christ rule (act as umpire continually) in your hearts [deciding and settling with finality all questions that arise in your minds, in that peaceful state] to which as [members of Christ's] one body you were also called [to live]. And be thankful (appreciative), [giving praise to God always].

Season of Thankfulness Day 4

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will].

Revealer [ri-veel-r]
one who makes known; discloses; divulges; reveals a secret; lays open to view.
Mediator me·di·a·tor [ meedee àytər ]

somebody helping end dispute: somebody who works with both sides in a dispute in an attempt to help them to reach an agreement; go-between; intercessor.

This scripture says it all!  No matter what the circumstances may be I THANK GOD!  I say that and yet I struggle to always live it or even say it.  There have been horrific things I have had to deal with or watch the people I love deal with and sadly I did not thank God. I did my best to trust Him and lean on Him.  But I never thanked Him.  I know in the end those events made me stronger and I didn't turn my back on God, but I did question Him repeatedly.

So today I am thankful:

That I am in Christ Jesus who is my revealer of secrets, laying open to view the unknown and my Mediator who goes between me and the enemy, interceding for me day and night.

I am thankful that I have a God who does know what is best for me and that I can trust Him even when the pressures of this world weigh down upon my shoulders.  I can give it to Him.  I don't have to try to understand it.  I just have to TRUST.  The perfectionist in me says, "This can't wait until morning.", "I can't right now, I have to finish this.", "If I don't figure out ...".

But God says Trust Me.

Jesus, as my Revealer, revealed this to me today,

"Is your life a little tangled and you wish you could unravel some of the messes you have made? GO to Jesus – he is the Wonderful Counselor. DO what his word says and TRUST Him – and watch his word guide you through your darkest hours."

You can visit Good Morning Girls today and read the remainder of this wonderful, encouraging blog by Courtney "I Have a Wonderful Counselor".  It is one of the things I am thankful for today.

Last, I am thankful for new devotionals.  (Thank you God and Jentezen Franklin Ministries for this free gift)
